In 1983, the Indian government launched the National Leprosy Eradication Program (NLEP) with the goal of eradicating leprosy. Due to the efforts of the NLEP, the rate of leprosy went from 58.7 per 1000 people to 1 per 1000 people in 2005. At this point, the Indian government declared that they had met the WHO goal of removing leprosy as a public health concern. It was cured using multi-drug therapy(MDT). The vaccine that is used against leprosy is the Tuberculosis vaccine$^0$
Polio can cause paralysis but it is easily preventable by taking the vaccine. However it is not curable.$^0$
The WHO launched the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) in 1988. Its goal was to eradicate the polio virus, like they did with smallpox. The number of cases decreased 99% as a result of the GPEI. Since 2014, 80% of the population are officially living in Polio free zones.
